Golden hello
A golden hello is a signing bonus paid to a senior hire on joining — often to compensate for bonuses or equity they forfeit by leaving their previous employer.
Used to close the gap when a strong candidate would lose unvested awards by moving. It can be cash, equity, or a guaranteed first-year bonus, and is sometimes clawed back if the hire leaves early.
